Does anyone watch this show without having read the books?
I was watching the battle between the Roci and the Pella, and my family was in the room. They didn't say anything, but I was wondering if they understood at all what was happening.
Torpedos fire. PDCs shoot them down. Ship spins and takes a shot with the rail gun. More torpedos. More PDCs.
Does any of this make sense to someone who hasn't read through a battle scene in the book?
I haven’t read the books. For me, it’s the visual aspect. All the ships look too samey, like Transformers do in the live action movies. I wouldn’t be able to pick the Roci out of a lineup.
A big problem Ive had since the beginning is the design of the Roci.

I don't know if reading the books helps that. I don't know what the Roci looks like either, and I've read, like, 5000 pages about it.

I’ve always found most of the space battles confusing. Too few establishing shots setting up context. During the final battle in the finale, I didn’t realize they had entered the ring space until the Roci was making its run on the outer edge of it. I attribute this to their limited budget (with which they still do an admirable job).

Also, in the book, I seem to remember spinning the ship to take a shot with the rail gun was a major thing, never done before, has to be flawlessly timed, will the physics work?, will it break our necks and make us pass out?, etc.
In the show, it just seemed like a normal part of fighting.

The AltShiftX podcast has a 2-hour interview out with the writers of The Expanse. I've listened to the first hour so far, which covers the last season of the show--I'm not a show watcher, but it was still interesting. The second hour is all about the end of the book series, really looking forward to that.

I got Memory's Legion yesterday and got through Drive and Butcher of Anderson Station (have never read any of the novellas). Great stuff but I have to resist the urge to go straight to Sins of our Fathers and rip through it.

I had a friend make sure to tell me to read the novellas as I was going through the novels, I am glad I did. I read the new story in 2 sittings. It was good!

Finished. The novellas were all really great. Bittersweet to be done. I hope they get to do the final three books onscreen and knock it out of the park. I'm not ready to be done with this universe yet.

I tried to get into the show, but it looked real cheap to me, and I just couldn't get over that. But the books were just great start to finish. They have a new book series starting in August of this year, and I'll certainly give it a shot: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/title ... cy-of-gods
