How does this not have a thread?
A promising young drummer enrolls at a cutthroat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.
Saw it last night. Phenominal. J.K. Simmons was scary as hell. Easily reminding you of the teacher that intimidated you the most throughout your school life.
Only 2 things that bugged me: -When what I'm hearing and seeing don't match up, it drives me nuts. The average person might not notice but as a drummer, when I see a stick hit a piece on the kit, I expect to hear that piece, not a cymbal or any other sound that doesn't line up with what I'm being shown.
-2 words: drummers gloves. In the movie, it's a big thing that the drummers have blistered/bloody fingers from playing so hard, which I get, is symbolic. Still, every drummer knows they're out there, so just fucking wear them!
Helluva movie anyway.

Brilliant film. The best of 2014 for me.

As I said in tinychat, Dev - you're so very wrong about this one.

This pretty much sums up why I'm dreading watching this. An "intense" movie with Miles Teller playing a white jazz drummer in college? Ffffuuuccckkkk yyyooouuuuu

Sure. Kanye west is a great producer, obnoxious wordsmith and his fanbase can best be described as cult-like - which is off-putting. What do you think?

Yeah, let's just pretend that jazz isn't a black artform and that making a white kid the protagonist (and another white guy his teacher) in a movie based in the world of jazz doesn't reek of movie whitewashing.

If that character was black the film would have been lambasted for perpetuating racism, you near-sighted pedant. Fuck outtahere.
