Is it? I don't think I've ever met or talked or internetted with a single person that's more than liked or meh'd Match Point.

It got quite a bit of praise when it came out. Kicked off a mini-renaissance for Woody, much like Midnight in Paris.

Woody has a mini-renaissance every other year.

I really liked Match Point, by the way. But it's nowhere near as great as Midnight in Paris. I don't know if I'd rank it above Blue Jasmine, either. I'd have to watch them both again. The performances in Blue Jasmine are definitely better.

Have you seen Crimes and Misdemeanors? MP is pretty much a shitty remake of it.

I have not. Which might explain why I liked MP so much. I'd never seen anything like that from Woody Allen. I had no idea he did anything remotely suspenseful or serious or even pseudo-erotic. Well, appropriately pseudo-erotic.

At the time all I'd seen by him were his really early Marx Brothers attempts.

CAM is one of his best. MP just makes it younger and sexier (and much less interesting).

I saw Match Point when it was released and recall enjoying it well enough but I hadn't seen Crimes and Misdemeanors (which is now one of my favourite films ever) at that point, nor many other Allen films. I'd be interested in watching it again at some point. Blue Jasmine's focus on moral ambiguity actually reminded me quite a lot of C&M.

Without having seen it, I have to say that Crimes and Misdemeanors might be the worst title for that film. I don't know what it's about, but I can't imagine anything other than a movie about fat-headed gangsters in fedoras, bumping into each other and mistakenly grabbing the wrong luggage on the over-night train to Chicago. Maybe each one gets to sing a solo. Maybe there's a dame in a red dress who's really a guy cop. Either way, there are a lot of banana peels.

Ultimately, that I don't want to get into it. But, I think it's worth looking into more--if you're going to think about the personal lives and possible criminal activities of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow.

I genuinely don't believe Allen sexually abused anyone but I don't think it would really impact upon my enjoyment of his work if he had. Very flawed human beings can still make exceptional art.

that article is a testimony from his child that he raped her. there are not many reasons to lie about something like that. seems like people are inclined to blame the victim, especially to defend Woody Allen.

I just don't understand why Woody Allen get's a free pass on child molestation, but it seems like he does!

A few years back, Quentin Tarantino called it one of his top 20 movies of all time.

Watched this yesterday and though it wasn't without its occasional flaws I really enjoyed it.
