The past is new again for agent 007: The next James Bond film will be called "Spectre."
Director Sam Mendes announced the name of the 24th official Bond film Thursday at England's Pinewood Studios.
Austrian actor Christoph Waltz will join Daniel Craig in the cast. Craig makes his fourth appearance as the rugged British secret service agent.
Ralph Fiennes, Rory Kinnear, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw will be reprising their roles from 2012's "Skyfall." Newcomers to the franchise include Monica Bellucci, Lea Seydoux, Andrew Scott and Dave Bautista.
Shooting for the film, due for release in late 2015, begins Monday.
New Bond film: 'Spectre'
Mendes all but said the title was a nod to the SPECTRE terror group featured in Ian Fleming's James Bond novels and the early films.
"Those of you who have some knowledge of the Bond franchise and the legend of Bond will probably have some idea of what that refers to, but I couldn't possibly comment," Mendes said.
The film's official Twitter account featured a picture of Bond's new car, a snazzy Aston Martin DB10.

Monica Bellucci?! I'm all in.

I read about this today. Sounds promising. I like the return to the SPECTRE.

Skyfall was the worst Bond movie to date, and I don't expect this to be much better.

Casino Royale was the only Craig Bond I've enjoyed. Probably because of Eva Green who is a treasure. Always hopeful I'll like the next one.

Sam Mendes should not be anywhere near this franchise.

He seems like a really nice guy. But I don't get the fascination, either really. He's a turned out some pretty mediocre performances. But I don't dislike or root against him or anything.

He's a very one-note actor.

It was an exceptionally paced and very technically accomplished delivery of a story that was exactly as stupid as Batman & Robin.

Casino was great, and I would have forgiven Quantum if it had been used to deliver a strong payoff (it could easily have been used as a springboard for a powerful third film). As frustrating as the latter was, it still had moments that were a thousand times more engaging than anything in Skyfall (see: Bond's response to René's death).

Craig makes for an engaging Bond, and Casino felt far more fresh than it had any right to. It's a shame that the franchise is increasingly concerned with reducing itself by following (or just mimicking) other, lesser action films, and filling up the remaining time with sloppy exposition and self-referential callbacks.

If you're not going to go with the balls out fantasyland fun of the 60's movies, then stop tossing in all these references that remind us you aren't as cool as that.

Dude, A view to a Kill, The World is Not Enough, and a License to Kill are all way way worse and that's just off the top of my head.

AVTAK and LTK are bad, but not as bad as Skyfall. But TWINE is one of my favorite Bond movies. I love it.

Agree to disagree. I thought the world is not enough was hot garbage on a humid, miserable summer day.

I can't wait for Craig and Mendes to be out and Idris Elba to be in.
