That moment in the church when Bartlet says about Josh, "That was my son," got me wondering who else the President would consider to be a son. Leo is obviously more of a brother.
Charlie pretty clearly. I think the President might have actually used the word son when he gave Charlie the carving knife that his father had given to him and so on.
Sam less so. Bartlet obviously has a great respect for him as an adviser and a writer, but they haven't had the close personal stuff that everyone else on the show has had with the President at some point. At least not that I can remember. Sam is also the last senior advisor told about the MS.
Toby is a bit more complicated. The President obviously has a great respect for Toby. The two butt heads often, but as has been explicitly stated, the President knows that he needs Toby to do exactly that with him. Toby was the first to be told about the MS, but only because he's the smartest guy in the office and so was the first to figure out that something was going on. However, Toby is the only one that Leo felt the need to test by floating him a "lifeboat" job offer just before the shit was about to hit the fan with the MS. Leo said that 'he' knew that Toby wouldn't leave to take the job, but that he needed to convince the President. It's not clear if the President actually voiced concern about Toby's loyalty to Leo, or if Leo just knew somehow. Toby is loyal, but the President doesn't completely trust him.

That church scene is one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a television show. I actually looked up the latin translation, and it makes it even better. I watched that episode again the next day after the first time I watched it.

also, I think Toby's grumpiness is hilarious. After the part when he left the meeting with the TV guy that offered him the job, he just walks through the office and says "Dont anybody talk to me right now" before anyone even notices him.

What is the translation of the Latin? I can't find it after a quick look around.

"Am I to believe that these are the acts of a loving God? A just God? A wise God? To hell with your punishments. I was your servant here on Earth. And I spread your word and I did your work. To hell with your punishments. To hell with you!"

It did strike me as a little strange that he claims some of his policy achievements as God's work. Or maybe one has to think of things that way to be President, with all the awesome power.

Hartsfield Landing from season 3 is a good one. One thing I like about this show is how the episodes you think are going to be filler end up being really, really good. Great Bartlet/Toby scenes in this one, and those are some of my favorites on the show.

My long post at the top of this page is pretty poorly written. Oh well

Started season 4 the other night, man do I love Josiah Bartlet. The part when he tells Ritchie off at the end of season 3 and the debate at the start of season 4 had me pumping my fist like it was a Bruins/Red Sox game.

What did you think of Isaac and Ishmael? I was wondering if and how the show was going to incorporate 9/11. It was a tasteful episode, kind of strange to see Leo all of a sudden become a super-racist, but I suppose that was the point of that story. I guess it was a necessary episode, and was pretty well done for what it was.

That seemed totally out of character for Leo, almost to the point of being unbelievable.

Bartlett's wife is annoying....also CJ to a lesser extent. The rest of the cast is pretty likable.

I actually havent seen the whole thing yet. I watched the first 15 minutes or so and fell asleep, and I just started up Manchester Part I when I went back to it the next day because I knew Issac and Ishmael wasnt relevant to the plot(plus I was frothing for more after that season 2 finale.) I will go back and finish it eventually though, it was still with Josh, Donna, and that class of kids when I left it.

Skitch, I think you'd really like West Wing if you got into it. It's got a lot of Homicide-ish qualities to it.

This show is very good at closing and opening seasons. I just watched the close of season 5 into season 6 and it was really good, as it has been pretty much every seasonal transition. The last 2 episodes of season 5 through the first 2 episodes of 6 was incredibly well done.

My policy disagreements with Sorkin limit my enjoyment of the show. It's kind of a problem.
