Particularly annoying were the cutscenes from other Kubrick films that had fucking nothing to do with what they were talking about. Maybe I went into it with a tongue-in-cheek attitude and that saved it for me. Is it an informative documentary? Barely. But it's super entertaining when viewed as more of a "can you believe how batshit awesome people can be sometimes?" sort of documentary. Basically, I went into that movie with the exact same level of expectation and enthusiasm as I do every time I come to RM. It was like two hours of watching a good GD thread. |

A lot of good ones already mentioned. I'll add a couple. - Let's Get Lost: A gorgeous and heartbreaking documentary on Chet Baker, a tragic figure in West Coast jazz. - Fifi Howls from Happiness: One of the most inspiring and expertly crafted documentaries I've ever watched, about Iranian artist Bahman Mohassess. - 20,000 Days on Earth: The new Nick Cave doc. Part concert film, part documentary, part stream-of-consciousness poetry, part rumination on the creative process, eschewing every traditional rock-doc trope. Very powerful film. |

LoathedVermin72 wrote: -Anvil! The Story of Anvil I remember watching this, senior year of film school. We had a weekly screening that we were all obligated to attend every Saturday morning. I was usually late ('cause Saturday morning), so I'd often miss the introductory speech that preceded the film. So I walked in just as the movie was starting, without knowing anything about it. I remember being convinced for the first... I don't know, 45 minutes?... that it was a mockumentary a-la Spinal Tap. It starts out that absurd, but becomes very emotionally involving by the end. Really cool doc. |

The Frontline docs that were just added to Netflix are awesome. League of Denial was fucking brutal. I should really stop watching the NFL. |

If it's good enough for Hulk Hogan, it's good enough for me. |
