In terms of being able to produce and open original movies on that scale, I'm not sure there's all that many besides him; and I'm not saying that as a good or bad thing, I'm just saying besides someone like Spielberg or James Cameron, I'm not sure there's many directors who can say "here's an idea I came up with, I'll need $200 million and a July 4th release," and basically get carte blanche approval. That may not happen anymore because of how Tenet came out, but it was that way for a while.

I was busy when it was out in theaters and then it just kinda kept slipping on me. I loved the original movie, so I guess I never made it a priority the way I did other films.
But I do really want to see it and I think I'm going to love the holy hell out of it. My expectations are pretty high.
It's pretty good. Like the book, the main crime thriller plot is weak, but when it focuses on the girl and her life, it's much better.
I enjoyed the book, too. Flaws and all. Would you say it's basically faithful to the book? And did you see the 2009 Swedish version? If so, how does it compare to that?

I think so? It's been awhile since I read the book, but I think it follows it for the most part. I've only seen bits of the Swedish version, so I can't really compare.

You totally have to watch Magic Mike, I avoided it for years because I somehow didn't realize it was Soderbergh, but it's a really excellent film.
