I should watch more of his movies, he is very hit or miss to me.
For sure. I also really want to see Schizopolis and High Flying Bird. But there are others like The Girlfriend Experience and Unsane that don’t interest me at all.
I saw High Flying Bird, loved the framing and photography, storywise so so. Unsane was really boring and looked awful. I do wanna see The Girlfriend Experience.

Just watched Magic Mike
Out of Sight Erin Brockovich Contagion Ocean's Eleven Behind the Candelabra Let Them Talk Magic Mike The Informant! Logan Lucky Traffic Side Effects The Limey Ocean's Thirteen The Laundromat Ocean's Twelve Solaris Che Haywire
i don't think i can in good faith rank soderbergh's filmography until i see erin brokovich. but i have a hard time imagining it would displace the limey, che, out of sight and ocean's 11 at the top.
does it strike anyone else that his body of work is under-appreciated?

If you’re putting Che at the top, it’s fair to say we appreciate different aspects of Soderbergh...
Che is a beautiful, provocative film. It’s also long as fuck. There’s like a full minute of Che smoking a cigarette at one point.
The Limey is a similar example. Great film, amazing performance by Stamp. But it drags in places, when Soderbergh’s leaning into the mood rather than the plot.
I prefer his stuff that’s leaner and punchier, so in that regard, Brokovich sits near the top for me. It’s almost as mainstream fun as Oceans 11, albeit with a more meaningful message underneath. But you may not dig it as much given what seems to be your favorite stuff of his.

i really, really like the lean stuff, too. his range is incredible -- another reason why i think he's criminally underrated. i'm going to watch Brokovich tomorrow night. too late to start right now.
