Caught the end of "The Happening" last night. I forgot how ridiculous this was. There's so many cheesy elements that I sort of love it. Because of this I forgot it was an M. Night movie.

Watched The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai last night.
Had to look up the watermelon scene and saw this on Wikipedia:
Quote:
Begelman [studio chief] interfered with constantly through the initial stages of shooting, demanding changes and sending notes. By the end of filming, these demands had disappeared. The crew became convinced that Begelman had "checked out", and to test their theory, added a now-famous scene in which the presence of a watermelon becomes a topic for a short discussion. When the scene was allowed into the movie without comment, they concluded that management was indeed ignoring them, and they had free rein to put in whatever they wanted.
One of my favorite things to do these days is read the Wikipedia entries to some of my favorite movies while actually watching them.
I love reading about script issues, development issues, reviews from the time period.
Its also funny to recognize when entries to Wikipedia are clearly not fleshed out beyond cut and past from old interviews/articles from the time the movies were released.
Overall, i get such joy out of reading about mostly banal issues from Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, a league of their own......and on and on and on.

I do this, too.

Top 5 Directors Working Today: (Quality of recent work outweighs older work, but both are taken into account so newer directors with less of a proven track record are at a disadvantage. Another way to say it is that these are the five directors I would be most stoked to learn that they have a new movie coming out and at the same time feel confident it would be great. I'm really looking forward to new stuff from Boots Riley, but he only has one movie so far so I won't put someone like him on this list).
Paul Thomas Anderson Bong Joon-Ho Josh & Benny Safdie David Lowery Kelly Reichardt
