The OUTLANDER series started by accident, when I decided to write a novel for practice, in order to:

1. Learn what it took to write a novel, and
2. To decide whether I really wanted to do that for real.

I did, and I did—and here we all are, still trying to figure out what the heck you call books that nobody can describe, but that fortunately most people seem to enjoy.

In essence, these novels are Big, Fat, Historical Fiction, à la James Clavell and James Michener. However, owing to the fact that I wrote the first book for practice, didn’t intend to show it to anyone, and therefore saw no reason to limit myself, they include…

history, warfare, medicine, sex, violence, spirituality, honor, betrayal, vengeance, hope and despair, relationships, the building and destruction of families and societies, time travel, moral ambiguity, swords, herbs, horses, gambling (with cards, dice, and lives), voyages of daring, journeys of both body and soul…

you know, the usual stuff of literature.

It's got everything!

I've enjoyed this so far. The lead actress is well cast and the scenery is just beautiful.

I've been looking forward to this show the most each week. I'm glad I gave it a chance I thought for sure it would be like I imagine one of those novels with Fabio on the cover would be like.....but in a kilt.

Too bad there's only one more episode then it goes on break. At least it has been picked up for a second season.

Next week looks interesting. I didn't expect them to go back and show more "current" 1940s stuff. I kinda thought she hit her head and this would end up being a dream or rather that would be a possibility when she gets back to her time to leave it open to interpretation or something. I know nothing about the source material. I'm afraid to look at anything for fear of spoilers.

I know nothing about the books, but I thought it was relatively clearly implied that the guy spying on her in the 1940's timeline scene in the first episode was Jamie.

we started watching this yesterday since my wife finished the first book recently. i enjoy all the crazy scots.
