The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
So my wife and I got a chess clock app, so we can play timed games. It's a whole new dimension of chess! Where before my chess matches had always been long, languid affairs, having a fixed amount of time to get through a match makes everything move faster, feel more urgent, and we actually get some laughs out of what has always been a very stoic game. Of course I'd seen people play with timers before, but didn't understand how it worked until now: We have our matches currently set for seven minutes, which means we each get a seven minute allotment of time to make as many moves as we want/need -- the time carries over from one move to the next. So if you run out of time while your opponent still has some left, you lose.
Adorable. Do you think you could beat Mickey and/or Argo?

Does anyone on RM collect or play Magic The Gathering? If yes, can you tell me if there’s any way to affordably get into it?
I’m specifically interested in the Lord of the Ring set that came out earlier this year and the Fallout series coming next year. I used to collect Star Wars CCG in middle school (still upset that I sold them all about 10 years ago), and I loved buying a few boosters every couple of weeks and adding to my collection that way, and then adding a collector’s box maybe once or twice a year. But I can’t seem to find the LOTR stuff anywhere locally (although TBF I haven’t gone to any gaming stores, which is probably the answer) and everything online appears to be $100+ boxes). Ideas?

Poked around of my own and ordered a few boosters to start from some random online site. Will report back when I’m broke.
