One of those "that guy"s Jay Thomas, cancer. He was Eddie LeBec on Cheers, Candace Bergen's baby daddy on Murphy Brown, several other tv appearances and a longtime radio host.

Loved listening to his Lone Ranger story every year on Letterman with my dad. I guess that Zamboni finally got him for real.

"They'll believe me, citizen." :haha:

I always loved that story.

Even better is when he came back for the quarterback challenge. I remember him telling the story about how he got on for it. Letterman and Vinnie Testaverde were trying to knock the top of the xmas tree off and weren't doing so well. Jay was backstage and saw they were bombing and asked Bif if he could go out. Bif wasn't sure and held him backstage but Bif got distracted and Jay slipped around him and ran out onstage to save the bit.
And nailed it right away.
Ever since then, Dave brought Jay back every year to toss some footballs at that tree.

I couldn't find the first time but they do reference it here the year after.
