The Walking Dead showrunner admits Maggie star Lauren Cohan could be leaving after season 8

The showrunner for The Walking Dead has admitted that there is a possibility that Lauren Cohan (Maggie) could be leaving the show at the end of season 8.
Cohan's contract is up at the end of the season and is in negotiations with AMC to sign a new deal. Reports have suggested that – although she is not seeking parity with Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus – she is unhappy with the salary offers put forward by the network.
And Scott Gimple confirmed to TVLine that negotiations are still ongoing.
"These things do happen in TV," he said of the possibility that Maggie might have to be written out. "But we're talking.
"Lauren is an actor who has such intuition and such power. Hopefully, it all works out."
Cohan is said to be seriously considering her options as she is reportedly looking at a number of TV pilot offers.
In the comics, Maggie is still alive and plays a major part in the narrative, so any exit for the character would have repercussions.
Whether Cohan stays or goes, the show will see a massive shake-up anyway. Gimple is handing over the reins as Angela Kang becomes the first female showrunner of the AMC drama for the start of season nine.

I read they are offering her no raise whatsoever. In television, not offering an actor a raise when a contract is up is really unheard of. I would quit too. If Lauren quits, I think Norman Reedus might follow. He's unhappy. The EPs of this show really piss me off.

I'm a little surprised I'm in the vast minority who found Carl annoying and was openly rooting for him to be killed off. I remember the pudding episode a couple of seasons ago when he got trapped in a room with a walker, I actually jumped up off my couch and was cheering for the walker. *shrugs* I guess I'm just hate watching this show at this point anyway and should just give up.

So the garbage people's storyline came to an end. That was one of the more annoying side treks of the whole series. I will be curious to see how Negan reacts to that news. Some decent zombie scenes, always welcome in a zombie show. I admit to watching these on fast forward a lot now. Did the blue paint mean anything?
Since Simon stepped in it at the dump and has it on his shoe, I'm sure it will be how Negan learns that Simon slaughtered the junkers against his instructions.
