We watched the first two episodes of Season 1 tonight if you want to keep up.

[Cersei and Jaime are on screen for the first time]
Mrs. Torture: "Oh, they're fucking."

[The Starks find the direwolves]
Mrs. Torture: "Are the dogs going to die? Don't spoil anything....but do the dogs die? How many dogs die?"

[Any time Cersei literally says anything]
Mrs. Torture: "SHADE."

[Ilyrio makes a joke about Dothrakis always being late]
Mrs. Torture: "They're not going to be POC, are they? This isn't some 'CP Time' joke, is it?"
[The Dothraki come on screen for the first time]
Mrs. Torture: "Jesus Christ. Do any non-white people watch this show?"

[Sansa says anything]
Mrs. Torture: "She is the absolute worst."

The biggest surprise of all is that she liked it. She's a very perceptive reader and is already sniffing around Jon's parentage 2 episodes in.

I really really need to convince my girl to watch with me. I'd love to watch from the beginning and we are in the need for a new show.

I'd already read the first three books when S1 aired, so my POV on this is skewed. But I remember thinking, "man they're being heavy handed as fuck with this stuff from the jump" the first time I watched the show.

I knew the parents from reading the books (2008), and even stronger from then reading all about the book theories online. But some people I know didn’t get it until after HBO showed it. I think people often take what they hear from characters as fact, and don’t take into consideration that the character may be lying. Perhaps even more typical in science fiction and fantasy, than in other fiction.

If Mrs. Torture figures it out, I’d say well done.

We are already through the first 9 episodes of Season 1. My wife's reaction to Ned's death was muted---she didn't have much of a reaction to the death itself, that is, but she was extremely disappointed that he sold himself out in his last moments. She's still enjoying it immensely. I think she's Team Renly. More to come.

I don't know if this an indictment of your wife or D&D but either way it's an awful opinion to have.

We finished S1 last night. So glad I'm rewatching this. There's so much information packed in.

I'm still not 100% sure on it, but it would be an odd opinion to have, considering how upset she was with Ned's self-sellout.

Renly's a terribly underdeveloped character in the show. It doesn't help that the actor playing him isn't bringing a lot to the table.

Davos is my favourite character in the series

Davos is a great character. But not in my top five. Probably not in my top 10.
