I just googled some reviews to dig in and read the wiki about produciton etc.... these best sum up the film:
Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film a score of four out of four stars, writing: "The unpredictable Cage delivers some of his best work in years."[12] Bilge Ebiri of Vulture gave the film a positive review and stated, "As it proceeds, it expands its vision and compassion, even as it de-escalates the tension. It's not about the thing it's about, except that it ultimately is totally about the thing it's about."[13] Richard Whittaker of The Austin Chronicle gave the film four-and-a-half out of five stars and stated, "At a time when so many people are struggling to find something of value in their lives, when people are fleeing jobs, cities, futures they thought they wanted, Cage has crafted a quiet soliloquy about grasping onto something that has meaning.
No idea where the hate comes from, I thought this was good despite the ending being pretty clearly telegraphed from the start.

The hate is directed at the book. They movie is excellent.
I didn’t read it, but that makes sense. King fell off a while ago

Kong vs Godzilla or Godzilla vs Kong or some shit like that. It was stupid.
The worst part was that Kong and Godzilla kept changing size depending on how dramatic the framing was suppose to be.

That was a weird movie! I remember it being a huge hit, like the movie you had to see back in the day. Super weird, sometimes even a little off but there are some good moments there anyway.
