Spike Lee Joints I've seen:

1. She's Gotta Have It
2. Do The Right Thing
3. Summer of Sam
4. 25th Hour
5. Inside Man
6. Miracle at St. Anna
7. BlacKkKlansman
8. Da 5 Bloods

So I still have a lot of stuff to dive into. I've missed a lot. Still, I'd rank him among my all-time favorite filmmakers. Just that body of work above is enough to canonize the man.

I have a strong feeling that I'm going to love Chi-Raq. Loved the trailer. Love Lee's overall aesthetic in general. Love the play it's inspired by. Love theater and theatricality in film. I'm going in with pretty high expectations.

yeah, and you just might love it for all the reasons I disliked it. The theatrical element was too much for me.

An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn.

Man, I'm on a real roll with these bizarre movies with great casts that I've never heard of somehow!

Surprised to see Malcolm X this far down. It was long and a little overdone but I thought it was pretty good.

I haven’t seen it for years, but my recollection is that it’s also oddly “straight” for a Spike Lee Joint — none of his usual vibrancy. Maybe my memory is off?

Oh yeah it's really straight. Mostly it's just a pretty good, well-acted biopic.

Miami Vice.

What a classic. Colin Farrell at its finest. Michael Mann, what a director. What he does here is just pure poetry.

Love this. Intend to rewatch it soon so I can listen to it on The Rewatchables.

Incredible tour de force. Really, im still reeling. I think ill tackle Thief later, and maybe Ali..maybe Blackhat.

Watched Thief a few months ago, still holds up.

Black Hat is bad!

Never saw Ali.

And wease — yes, Miami Vice is awesome. It’s Mann just having the purest fun he’s ever had.

I might revisit Heat and Collateral too, my favorites from him. And a rewatch of The Insider is coming too.

Watched Miami Vice Director’s Cut tonight.

Mixed feelings on the added stuff. I prefer the theatrical opening, being dropped right into the middle of an undercover op.

Love the additional boat and sky footage, but it really makes the lack of action more noticeable.

Feels like the relationship between Sonny and Gong Li is a little more fleshed out.

Love this flick. So dark and moody and slick and cool.

yeah i remember watching the directors cut and thinking the theatrical one was better.

I love everything about this movie. Everything. The final shot with Sonny going to the hospital is so good.

Force of Nature, cause Mel Gibson. What a waste of time.
