Those were just the first 3 that popped into my head as movies that had me looking over my shoulder. Exorcist and Blair Witch more so than LtROI, but that one definitely lingered with me for a while.

The Big Sick: Pretty entertaining as far as rom coms go.
Paterson: Jarmusch does his usual thing, this time focusing on a poet. Really pleasant, intimate character portrait; the poetry is solid too. Adam Driver has one of the most evocative faces on the screen today, and he makes great use of it here.
IT is a much better movie than all those you listed. But I agree it's not scary. Most horror movies aren't.
No, it wasn’t super scary. Suspenseful but not scary. And I liked it a lot. Can’t wait for chapter two.
I have been legit scared very few times in the past 15 years from Horror Movies. I think the last one tos care me was Insidious and Im not really sure why.
Blair Witch fucked with me because I saw it in the theaters before it was nationally released. People weren't really sure what the thing was yet at that point and i ended up going camping in Colorado the next day with my friends who saw it. There were some lingering emotions from the movie at that point while camping in the mountains.
IT wasn't scary though there were some fun jumping moments. It was a good horror movie because it was a total riot and lots of fun with great performances.
Insidious still scares the everloving shit out of me every time I watch it. That movie presses so many buttons for me.
First time i watched it i made it about halfway through before I thought just going to bed and trying to forget about it would be best. Finished it the next night.

Every time I read this I see "Sidious" instead.
The last movie to really get me was The Ring. I read way too much of the extended stuff and it actually made it tough to sleep for a week or so afterwards. I just really got into the story behind the movie for some reason, it got me just right.
Even if its a flawed adaptation from a wonderful book, the movie is great in its own terms. Its maybe a little closer to Nightmare On Elm Street? Maybe. But its great ride.

What about the adaptation do you think wasn't accurate to the book?
