Yeah, it was a very big hit in 86. Cronenberg's most commercially successful film. It's one of those films I learned about from references in pop culture long before watching it. It had been a while since I'd seen it, and I'm blown away by how powerful and emotional it is. Great practical effects too. I choose not to acknowledge your pun.
The Fly was the first and probably only movie to give me a nightmare, even if I was 7-8. I was supposed to be asleep, but snuck down and watched parts of it from the corner of the room. A few years later (maybe 11-12), I watched it, and loved it.
I remember I was in Miami when it happened. I was posting from the balcony of my apartment overlooking the beach. And I was having an argument with Adamdude.
Think there is a good chance I will enjoy this even more than the first time I saw it. Thought it was a good movie, but didn’t fully hit me the night I saw it in 2015. This will only be the second ever time seeing it.

Like a lot of people it seems, I also saw The Fly on TV at too young of an age and it unsettled the shit out of me. It was one of the first truly disturbing movies I remember seeing. I then went through a bit of a phase where I watched it a bunch.

so far, Smile is OK. I don't like the little attempts at humour. For instance, a guy is kind of hitting on bacon, and gets shot down. It's all a very serious tone, until we focus on a nurse who's been standing there quietly, who says, "you know she's engaged, right?" "yeah" a beat... "well, I'm single!" in a very sassy way and then we cut away
feels like a totally unnecessary joke, and not even funny.. this kind of thing has happened several times already and I don't like it

I found it a bit on the lame side. And there's a very exciting moment that makes it feel like the whole movie is going to be turned on its head, but they back away from it very quickly. I didn't hate it but I did end up feeling somewhat disappointed with it. It needed a bit of oomph.
