I like it a lot. Theron is magnificent. The best actress of her generation? Its such a powerful force i cant even think about a frame without her.
About the ending though...

Spoiler: show
Im kinda bummed with the route they gave us..the whole yeah, tully is me as a young girl...i think it was even more powerful if she was real. Its still a very good view on maternity and women...But having her being real would have been more powerful

I don't disagree. I see what you mean. But I thought it was powerful.

It was really powerful, so well written, so honest and at the same time, it made you think a lot.
Theron was incredible really.

I'm glad you agree. She destroyed me. Such a wonderful performance.

Watching Phantom Thread for second time with the wife. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. Wife said I like it so much cause I'm so detail oriented, educated, and appreciate beauty. I said no I'm not educated she said but you know how to appreciate beauty. Yeah.

in the last week I watched....

Game Night - funny. I hate Jason Bateman less and less these days.
Revenge (2018) - FUUUUUcked up.
Annihilation - Cool Sci-fi. I liked it more than I thought I would.
Zodiac - First time watching it ever. i loved it. Downey was great.
Night Crawler - disturbing. He should have been nominated for that one.
American Made - really good. weird pacing, weird performance by TC, but I liked it.

Hellraiser.

I remember being so fuckin scared as a kid watching this one. I felt like a truly dangerous and evil movie. Im glad it hold up to that feeling even if its dated in a lot of things, acting wise for example.

But it still feels like something you should not watch at all. Like an extension of the box. Feels like after you watch that the cenobites will come.

Finally saw "The Shape of Water."

It was pretty good. The '50s theme/set design was kinda overkill and made me wanna play BioShock. Hated the ending.

Michael Shannon is always fun and he has a giant Rachel Ray-like head.

Phantom Thread. What's RM's take on this? Here's mine.

Spoiler: show
Magnificent. Stunning imagery, music, performances, pacing. Both extremely
measured and extremely tense. As for the story, it's basically "fussy, talented man picks his poison." But don't we all sort of do that when we sign up for a monogomous relationship?

One thing i've been increasingly aware of (after reading an interview with Bill Hader re: Barry) is: If i had the sound off, would i still be able to understand the relationships and emotions between characters? For nearly every scene in this film, the answer was yes.

I loved it.
The score, the acting, the framing, the beautifully crafted production design.

The Lure.

Probably the best Polish musical about homicidal mermaids involved in a love triangle I've ever seen.

Last night we watched Before Sunset, which we agreed wasn't as good as Before Midnight, but better than Before Sunrise, then half of 40 Year Old Virgin - always good for a giggle.

Before Sunset is by far my favorite of that excellent trilogy.
