The Final Destination.

A big meh. The cgi is dated. i prefer the other entries.

John Carpenter´s Vampires.

Its always good to revisit a classic. James Woods and Sheryl Lee own this movie.

I thought Annie Clark's segment in XX was really great. I hope she directs a feature.

The Dark Crystal.
Had not seen it before. I probably would have liked it if I saw it when I was about 11. Obviously the effects are dated for early/mid 80s movie with puppets & stop motion animation but the storyline is very familiar to anyone who has seen a fantasy movie. It doesn't always make sense (or it could be that I wasn't paying attention) but it does move along quickly. I'm glad I finally saw it since I wanted to when it came out but once was enough, at least as an adult.

You liked it? I thought it was plain boring.

The whole thing is pretty meh.

Yeah I dug it. Clark has a gift for subtle cinematic strangeness, making things feel slightly "off" in a way that isn't overbearing. There's a sense of fun and style, and it operated in service of some interesting subtext/defamililarization - a mom trying to mask the pain of her reality for the sake of her child. This was actually an interesting recurring theme through multiple segments. Overall, I didn't love the whole movie, but it genuinely seems to have a unique and insightful viewpoint that does not feel "male" at all, and it makes me want a greater presence for female filmmakers in genre movies.

Elizabeth Banks's performance in Power Rangers is one of the worst I've ever seen.

Watched McFarland, USA last night. It was a pretty good movie overall, if sappy. I liked how they actually showed how bad migrant workers have it instead of just saying, "They're hard workers, take our word for it." Also there were a few story beats where I was like, "Well, this is going to happen in the next twenty minutes". Such as when he forgot the birthday cake for her fifteenth birthday. Gee, they're living in a Hispanic neighborhood, what could possibly happen next. Oh you think they're gang bangers but they really aren't? Ok, so who's going to get stabbed.

My son had apparently seen it twice before, once at a cross country end-of-season party and once in one of his Spanish classes, and he still really liked it.

And then I read the wiki and the whole thing is basically a lie. Why do they do this? You have a perfectly acceptable "wow, this is uplifting" story, you don't have to add drama where there is none. It's stupid.

I only liked one segment...the one with the kid and the mom. The other ones were half baked ideas, and the one with the group of friends in the forrest was just embarrassing and boring.

Annie´s one was ok, but overall it felt like a waste of time.

Incredible. really enjoyed this. Fantastic performances all around but Charlie Hunnam was the tops.

I was going to post that I had never heard of anyone else calling this movie a classic, but I googled it and Gene Siskel gave it four stars. So it's you and Gene Siskel.
