I love Ben Stiller, but I don’t feel like I have to watch everything he’s in.

Sounds more like “like” than “love”

What do you love about him? I feel like all his good movies are good despite him. He's like Jimmy Garoppolo; if the supporting cast and play calling are great, he'll play alright, but he won't carry a team.

If something looks crap, even in spite of how I think he will perform, then why should I watch? At least not immediately.

I can see where some may not like him, but for his comedic roles especially in his late 90’s to mid 2000’s run I just think he nailed the frustrated, awkward guy just trying to get along roles so well. And the over the top stuff like Zoolander. I’d never argue he’s playing mostly the same character in different movies in that era, but most comedy actors do.

I think I can relate to his frustrated, exasperated characters also, which helps.

Yeah, he definitely fits some roles really well (There's Something about Mary and Meet The Parents), but it's a very specific type of role. Anytime he strays from that it comes across poorly, it seems. The broad Zoolander type of role is OK for what it does, but not my cup of tea. I think I remember enjoying him enough in Greenberg and other Noah Baumbach movies, but there's not really much going on in those roles. Just kinda being himself. And I guess he should get credit for directing The Cable Guy. I just feel very meh about him overall. But yeah he deserves some credit. Walter Mitty and this dumb Tower Heist took him down a peg or two for me.

I didn’t care for Walter Mitty on most fronts. Zoolander is just a classic, all time favorite for me. I love everything about it.

But to trag’s comment it’s pretty easy to still love an actor despite some sh*tty output - I.e. DeNiro, Cage, Orpheus

Last night I dreamt that I was watching Oceans 14. The movie didn't make much sense but I'm really impressed by my brain's ability to recreate Soderbergh lighting and general vibes from scratch. 8-)

I was very pleased. Parenthood seems to have obliterated my dreamstate.

I remember fewer (or dream less) as well.

I liked Steve Martin in that one
