Solaris the book: It was ok, but not great. Too sciency. Focuses on the utter alien-ness of the planet at the expense of the characters.
Solaris (1972) Best of the lot. More interesting exploration of the theme, but I was disappointed in the poor visuals. It's not as pretty as i was hoping.
Solaris (2002) This sucked. Jettisoned all the interesting bits in favor of a lame love story with dumb motivations. Flubbed the best line in the book. Terrible casting, too. Very limp movie all around.

Totally agreed. First 2/3 are magnificent. The final act isn’t awful, but it’s a drop off in quality: the plot turns feel thrown together, and the lighting detracts from any real sense of scope at the Louvre and underwater.
