I read 50,942 pages across 208 books

I still have 7 books to read yet for my challenge so that will change.

SHORTEST BOOK
23 pages
The Playground
by Ray Bradbury

LONGEST BOOK
597 pages
The Night Manager
by John le Carré

MOST POPULAR
1,630,080
people also read
Brave New World
by Aldous Huxley

Considering the news this year, no surprise there. Last year was Animal Farm with 2,687,854 readers.
LEAST POPULAR
7
people also read
The Mighty Skullboy Army Volume 1
by Jacob Chabot

Odd that Volume 2 wasn't listed, but maybe that's because Volume 1 is a combination of two graphic novels? Last year my least popular was only read by 2 other people.

I'm not going to meet my challenge even though technically I destroyed it. I removed all the graphic novels I read cause it felt like cheating. Also I'm reading complete collections of a couple authors and I could have split the stories out but that felt like a cheat too. I deleted Al Franken's book out of disillusionment.

Yeah, I'm adapting my challenge for 2018. For example: I need to read the Wheel of Time books because my brother in law keeps telling me to do it, so that's one challenge. It's also a lot of fucking books, so we'll see.

I'm thinking of making a reading challenge thread here but this thread sees so little action I dunno.

I met my 215 book challenge yesterday with The Sisters Brothers. It was an interesting read. I've now read all of his books and I don't think any of them would be something I could use to say, "hey, check out this other book by him" because they're all so different. If you liked this one you might like Ablutions but it's kind of dark like a Palahniuk book whereas TSB is dark but has a 'happy' ending.

I liked The Sister Brothers. I was thinking of giving The Bastard a try. I dig westerns.

The Whiz Mob and the Grenadine Kid was excellent. Easily the best of Meloy's books so far. I liked it better than the Wildwood Chronicles.

It's only 99 cents on the kindle. Of course it's also only 21 pages.

Does anyone have Kindle Unlimited? It talks about unlimited Audiobooks...I have an audible account so this sounds like it'd be cheaper than that. What's the downside to them getting less money from me for books that I don't care to own anyway.

This is probably up next. The guy at the bookstore made it sound great.

I know I posted this already and I’m sorry but I sat down again last night and read this book again in one sitting. It really is astonishingly good. And I’m not overselling it. Do yourself a massive favour and get it. This is dying to be made into a tv series and apparently they have a sequel on the way. Get in on the ground floor. It’s like €3 on Amazon. I’m blown away with what they did here. Time travel never spoke to me at all. But I’ve never seen it done so well. Impact. Cause. Effect. Result. I could go on and on. Give it a go. Especially if you have any interest in history.

I bought it based on your recommendation a few weeks ago, just haven't had a chance to bump it up my queue.

And oddly enough I just had him recommended to me on twitter. Maybe it's a sign. Or maybe it's analytics.

Trying to get my subscriptions in order for the new year and realized I've been paying for Audible since 2015. It's not even on my device! This means I've amassed a lot of free credits, so please give me all of your short story recommendations.

So far my library only consists of Pulphead - JJ Sullivan and Men without Women - Murakami.

I just finished the chapter that took me through the 80s in J Bowyer Bell's The Secret Army: The IRA (Revised 3rd Edition). Jesus does it get messy as the end game approaches.

In 2017, I read 12,148 pages across 36 books, according to Goodreads.
The best fiction book I read this year was Fever Dream, by Samanta Schweblin.
The best non-fiction book I read this year was The Coming of the Third Reich, by Richard J. Evans.

I didn't read much in 2017. It made me dumber.

Started Telegraph Avenue yesterday. It's laughable to think back to 2004 when this story took place and how a neighborhood's landscape could be threatened by a DVD/book/CD megastore of all things. Nuts how quickly modern novels date themselves. Looking forward to finishing this one.

100 in and it’s good. Surprisingly good. And I wasn’t aware that it was made into a movie last year.
