Just reading stuff I see on the teevee I guess.

God, why did I think I would enjoy It? I'm a King fan but generally think the quality of his stories is inversely proportional to their length. Now I'm 400 pages (only 25%!!) into this rambling, coke-fueled mess and feel like it's too late to bail.

My memory is that all the adult stuff is just as you're saying, but all the kid stuff is awesome.

My memory is largely the opposite. *shrugs*

I didn’t know this :)

My favourite James Joyce story is ‘the dead’ in Dubliners. Just found out the house it’s set in is just down the street from my house :)
Knew it had a connection to Joyce, there’s a plaque outside I never read and the bridge right outside is called James Joyce bridge, it’s right on the Liffey, but the house is the setting to that’s story?
Cool :)

Finished up the Preacher comics. Pretty good. I can see why folks love it. Not exactly my jam but I still appreciate what it has to offer. Glad I read it.

Nearly finished with the Franken book, I absolutely love it. 2/5 education on the finer mechanics of the recent senate; 2/5 very funny political satire; 1/5 autobiography. A breeze to read, with a lot of convenient 8-page chapters.

Bought this like a year ago and finally started it the other day. About a quarter into it and I'm really enjoying it.

Rereading "God bless you, Mr rosewater" while on vacation. I sure do love Vonnegut.

That's among his very best, too.

Fools and Mortals - Bernard Cornwell
Heard a long interview with Bernard Cornwell and was really charmed. He has a million great stories and tells them well so got his latest one. It’s great stuff so far. Set in Shakespeare’s theatre company and from the POV of his younger brother.

Will be looking into more of his work after.

Hindsight - Matthew Keegan

I’m not a fan of time travel usually but this book changed that. It’s brilliant. It’s on amazon for $4. Really well written and thought out. Give it a go you’ll be glad you did. This is the blurb

The year is 2065.
The super-rich have a new way to vacation and collect rare items, Time Travel.
One man can allow you to travel back in time to witness a major event, see an old friend or relative long gone or to attain a rare work of art.
But you cannot interact, you cannot divert from the path and you must not change what takes place.
Thomson Carr is the creator of the Market, a man ‘out of time’ most of his life, and with the assistance of a specially selected team he can offer these services.
Martin Townes is a man that simply wants to right a wrong. Nothing more, and he’ll do whatever it takes to achieve it.
Even if it means shattering time.
Spanning hundreds of years in time, The Market will take us to places and lead us to mysteries we never had fully answered, offering a glimpse of what was, and always asking the question…

What would you change…in hindsight?

A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again

The television essay is kicking my ass right now. it's so long! It keeps wandering back and forth between "hey, there's some good ideas and critiques in here" and "hey, you could just say you hate people who watch too much TV instead of raiding a God Damn thesaurus".

That is a really tough essay. Let me know if you still have the same thoughts at the end.

I feel like I would enjoy a classroom discussion about it that spanned a couple weeks just because of the myriad of ideas in it.
