Then write 4700 words about eating it. How you felt before, how you savored every bite, did you though? Or did you inhale it? How’d you feel after? Satisfied or sad or both.

What time of day? Did you eat in the dining room? The kitchen? The living room? Sitting in a parked car next to the railroad tracks just yards away from a whataburger?

Graphic novels > audio novels > regular novels

What are five graphic novels you’d recommend to someone who doesn’t totally move the format? I really enjoyed both Bone and Blankets, but I mostly hate superheroes and completely hate Neil Gaiman.

I'm far from an expert. Mostly I like the more art driven stuff (or stuff that emphasizes visual storytelling.)

Some random ones I have that I like:
Final Incal (Jodorowsky)
a manga called Blame!
Hard Boiled
Hellboy
Sin City
Head Lopper

But speaking of Gaiman: I don't like him that much either but I have copy of Sandman Overture and it's fantastic. I don't like the other Sandman stuff I've read that much, but this one is on another level, mostly thanks to the trippy art.

I started this and realized about 30% in that I really don't like it very much. Now 50% in and it feels like it'll be a waste of time to bail.

I honestly don't think I could make it through a novel about MFA students.

I am still trying to figure out if being written in the style of a bland MFA's first draft is some sort of choice since it's about a bland MFA student.

The protagonist's best friend is homophobic, and the novel lets us know by:

1. Having him say he would be scared to cover Magic Johnson in a basketball game.
2. He calls a bunch of other guys gay for wanting to get naked for a Halloween prank.
3. In regards to someone's gender reassignment surgery, be utters the phrase, "People can do whatever they want to their bodies, but..."

fwiw I read Loner, and felt the same way you do about this one, that I had to force myself to finish it.

This takes place in 1996, and the narrator mentions being searched by the TSA at the airport--the TSA wasn't founded until 2001.

I just wrapped it up and hope to barely think about it ever again.

There was this seemingly unfinished thread where the narrator would be horrified whenever he saw someone with a prosthetic limb, but not much else was interesting. The last scene is the narrator, now a middle-aged man, watching Trump’s victory speech the night of the 2016 election. That was weird.

I blame the Columbia MFA program specifically
