I'm not sure that was supernatural. I think that was just the storm knocking out the power, no?
It was metaphorically "the darkness chasing him"
Yes, that was the visual metaphor.
But really it was bait to keep the viewer engaged as the timing of the event implied something supernatural was happening or was about happen to him when instead he was easily able to get out to whats-her-names house in the middle of that massive blizzard, dig a hole in the ice, and dump the bodies in the ocean. Didn't she live like right by the station as she was able to walk in a storm to frozen naked scientists from her house, right?

Beautifully shot, haunting, great performances, but i walked away thinking "meh"
Sometimes engaging sometimes very lazy writing. The way they wrapped the ending up felt absurdly rushed. "Ah! lets check finger prints", splash some fluid on their, black light to expose countless finger/hand prints and then just one that sticks out to her? cut to a quick flashback, then they go to the house and confront ....

a power cut usually doesn't result in lights synchronizing where they go out one by one in order with a perfect time lag to correspondence with a truck traveling 30 mph.

i'm not saying that they can't do it. they just need to be consistent about it is all. either there's supernatural element or there's not. if there's not, don't spend the last episode explaining away all of the things that you believed were based on the supernatural in like 3 minutes.

You know how you walk through your home at night and turn off the lights as you make your way to the bedroom? It was like that. Turning off lights as you go to your eternal resting place.

I think its fine hinting at supernatural elements considering the native tribe believes in spirits and the afterworld. Juxtaposed with an outside, Jodie Foster, not believiing in pretty much anything anymore due to significant loss in her life.
These elements, teased or not, are totally fine and were consistent.

yeah, like i said -- don't confuse my criticisms with not enjoying it. i didn't go into it expecting (or demanding) must-see tv. i got out of it what i expected, and it was enjoyable.
