Guys the season was a mess.

It might have been better if Lopez didn’t shoed in all those references to S1; but it was still a huge mess.

Foster was ok and that’s it.

Some of the shots were also beautiful, like when Danvers plunged into the icy water. That shit looked incredible.

But yeah, overall this season was poopy.

Ok now I'm done.

My biggest gripe was that cover song of Eagle Eye Cherry’s “save tonight” during the end credits of the next to last episode. Terrible.

Time to let this go, but the worst part was the that the first two were legitimately good TV.

You'd hate it.

not if i knew what i was signing up for. but this season of true detective struggled a bit with its identity.

I'm not sure I agree. I think it struggled a bit with some execution of ideas. But I think it clearly knows what it is.

i'm not trying to be a contrarian, but what exactly is it?

It's a horror/noir crime story with strong themes about silenced/invisible peoples/witnesses and a focus on how stories are told and who gets to tell them.

What I think they failed to answer:
Spoiler: show
How did the janitors rig that dvd player to only play the parade scene from Ferris Bueller to the point that it was playing again when they went back to TSALSAL after stopping it the first time?

They didn't rig it. This just a typical DVD skip.

Evidently Pizzolatto was pissed about the “flat circle” line gratuitously thrown into the season finale.

Reggie Ledoux didn’t impart that wisdom on Rust Chole moments before his execution for it to be shoehorned into a scene that it loosely fit just for some semblance of nostalgia porn

Yeah that felt extremely hamfisted.
Is that a line that is said in each season?

No, but Vince Vaughn had a great line about cavities and a sweet tooth in season 2

Him being very dismissive of this season was a red alert when I first read about it; at first I was also thinking he could be angry because he is not a part of the show anymore but now I agree completely with his remarks.

I think his criticisms would hit slightly more if he'd literally done anything else noteworthy besides TD's first season. And while I really love it, it's the directing and acting in that season that really make it take off.

Renewed for season 5 with Lopez returning as showrunner. Between this and Alan Sepinwall stating this was the series’ best finale, I feel like this is all an elaborate prank. With Pizzolato ensuring he never comes back with his douche behavior this week, we’re doomed.
