That's strange. I felt like nothing happened in the ending this season. It just sort of petered out.
i think if you're viewing this season as a crime story, you're right. after all, we pretty much knew the who-done-it (or at least those that were involved) well before hand. but if you're viewing it as a detective profile, then i would definitely disagree.

This.
Season 1’s plot was better, but Hayes is probably the series’s best character

A bit depressing. An old detective working on the one case that haunted him, and now most of the people he knew are dead, and he’s senile. In the end he forgets why he ended up at the woman’s place.

I think S1's plot is the worst thing about the season. It's limp, obvious, and reliant on too much confidence. And that's when it isn't being purposely vague and incoherent.
Season 3 handled plot so much more effectively. Though, it still wasn't flawless, it was leaps and bounds better.

Has this kind of narrative hook been used before, in terms of framing someone's battle with dementia in the guise of a detective story (i.e. trying to solve the case despite the hindrance of fading memory)? It seems like such an obvious narrative device for writers in the crime genre to employ, so I'm sure there's been great examples of it in the past, but ironically my mind is drawing a blank on it as well.

Memento was similar I suppose, but... shit... definitely something else. It’ll take a minute to...

I think the ending of this season was really lackluster, but the preceeding 7 episodes and 40-ish minutes of the 8th were great. Nice return to form after whatever the fuck the Colin Farrel and Vince Vaughn cringe fest was supposed to be.

Trash. Pizzalocker is an awful writer and it's only marginally saved by the phenomenal acting he gets.

It was by far the worst, I would skip it.
Interested in S4 only because it seems like Pizzolato is not very involved.
