The music during the scene with Hayes' son was weird.... kinda distracted from the importance of the scene (assuming Hayes had lied to Amanda to help with the book). This was probably the first episode I didnt really like this season.

I had the same thought on the music in that scene, so much so I thought it was coming from my phone.

Provided they don't mess it up too badly next week, I'd say that while overall Season 1 is better, this season is certainly ending more strongly. The first season felt like it petered out a bit in the last few episodes.
so i think henry uncovered a lot of evidence and did his own investigation and then fed it to the reporter so she could spoon it to wayne so he could pick it back up in 2015 as a form of closure.

She's gotten some things wrong, based on the evidence that's trickled out over the past few episodes. I do not think this case is centered on a pedophile ring like Season 1. If you're trying to feed clues to a dementia-ridden old man, you wouldn't throw in a red herring like that, right? I think what's more likely is that Wayne left breadcrumbs after his confrontation with Hoyt that's coming up in Episode 8 hoping that someday someone else would put all of the pieces together. There are some hints that he's got some sort of early-onset neurological issues in 1990, so maybe throughout that decade he started to understand how his memory would someday fail, so he planted clues so somebody else could solve it and finally bring the Hoyts to justice.
I stil dont know what his son is about in all of this. And his daughter...we know something happened between them but im not sure we will know what. And what about Amelia? It seems a lot of his relationships will remain untold. Also, when he says to Dorff about i didnt realize you were different...is he talking about him being gay?

I agree. I feel more invested in Hayes and Roland as characters vs S1 where the story was front and center

I'm four episodes into this and I think it's the best season so far. The only think this season is lacking is Cary Fukunaga. If he was shooting this, there would be no question that 3 is superior.
I guess I shouldn't jump the gun. Maybe this thing goes off the rails big time after ep 4. But right now it's just fantastic.

It gets better joe. Nice to see you here.
Welcome back home.
Ep 5 was fantastic.
This is the first season where I've actually given a shit about the mystery itself. The show is always good with character and this season is no different. But I actually actively want to know what the fuck happened!

Interesting. I'd say the characters in S1 were front and center and the story was way less meaningful.
I'm all caught up. This is an exceptional season of television. It feels like all the promise of the True Detective premise is finally paying off. Every aspect of this is wonderful. Again, I miss Cary behind the camera, that's the only thing that could possibly elevate S3.
But I'm completely blown away by this season. It's outstanding.
