Guys the trailer for Mandy is out.

Its the best movie ever.

fuck yeah!

Despite using super-violence as a selling point and Nick Cage, who looks absurdly awful, I'm somehow kind of interested in this.

Whats wrong with violence as a selling point? and nic cage??

A lot. And he's terrible.

If you really want to talk about it, we can. But I'm not sure it really matters. It's not something you're going to agree with and I'll say something honest that just ends up being one of those things y'all can tease me about from time to time.

I don't believe that violent films make people violent or anything like that. It's not that cut and dried. But I do have an issue with using violence as a means to sell a product. I have issues with the elevation and glorification of violence, especially violence for violence's sake with no larger or more interesting message or implication. The movie may not be violence for violence's sake. I don't know. But that marketing cam across that way to me.

As far as Nick Cage goes... I don't know what else to say. I think he's a one note hack who makes largely terrible films. People seem to like him a lot but I think he's been mostly useless since the late 90s. He's like Al Pacino if Al Pacino was never actually good except accidentally sometimes.

Even if we dont agree we can discuss about it.
I dont think this film is teasing violence for violence sake in the same way action movies or other movies do. I think its beautifully shot and presented and the violence is gorgeous and cinematic. Im all in for that.

You should see Joe. Its fuckin awesome. And Dog Eat Dog is one of my favs from him too. To see Willem Dafoe and him working together...bliss.

Oh and the amazing Bad Lieutenant 2!!! Such a wonderful film.

I've watched the trailers for all of those movie, but I admit I haven't seen the films themselves. I don't know man... I'll see if I can get around to any of those. But they look awful to me.

Objectively, I'm not concerned about it.

Subjectively, I'm much more engaged in it when the story or characters make it more emotionally compelling (Brawl In Cellblock 99, Green Room, etc). I don't have much of a taste for mindless violence in movies, but I'm certainly not offended by it.

I loved Django Unchained all the way up to the overblown mindless violence and the scenes that follow. It should've ended with a quick shootout and escape after the dentist gets shot.
