I’ve not seen any of these after the first sequel. Is it a series I should devote my time towards watching?
Don't go out of your way to watch. 3 and 4 are ok. The new ones are terrible, regardless of what some people here seem to think.
Alien: Covenant is terrible. I enjoyed Prometheus though.
I appreciated the new look and take on the Alien franchise, but holy shit do some dumb things happen in that movie. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.

I've seen everything, including the two AVP movies. You could live your life without seeing anything other than Alien & Aliens and die without regrets.

I'm putting this here--for now--because of you jokers and your mass threads:
Saw Alien at the theater today. Incredible experience. Looked and sounded great and I was amazed how many little, new things I picked up that I'd never noticed before: set design elements, acting nuances, score, sound effects; the list goes on. Highly recommend going to see it before it leaves theaters.
The film was preceded by a brief interview segment with Alvarez and Scott. Mostly Alvarez fawning over Ridley.

Alien is a timeless masterpiece.
Funnily enough, the only part of it that didn’t feel timeless was the redone MUTHR computer screen effects (I think they were redone for the Quadrilogy DVD release). Completely incongruent with the rest of the terminals throughout the ship — it looks like a 2000s-era DVD menu!
