Finally got around to watching this. No one does plane crashes better than Zemeckis. I wish the rest of the movie was as good as those first 30 minutes, which are about as good as anything you’ll see in a movie.

Denzel is outstanding throughout but can’t save the film from increasing levels of mediocre melodrama in the script, music, and plot choices in the final act. What exactly was Bruce Greenwood doing? Did he forget how to act?

Worth a watch but the second half of the movie keeps it from being truly great.
