That was an unexpectedly amazing episode. I was very lukewarm on the show after the first 2 eps, but wow, that was very moving television. Sat with me for a long time.

Totally agree.
Should be interesting if episode 4 reveals any surprises. The trailer for the episode looks like we are back to more basic paint by numbers storytelling but ya never know. I'm gonna hang in there.

I'm really impressed Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett pulled that off together. It was a really touching, tender relationship they portrayed. They really walked a tightrope.

We watched the first meal/piano scene again last night. I adore how clumsy, awkward, and touching it is. You don't need an exposition dump to completely understand the characters and where they are in their lives in that moment. Beautifully done.

Yeah this sequencer was my favorite too. Including the shower scene.
I’m interested to see how the themes of this episode become reflected in the Joel/Ellie relationship. I mean I know all the plot beats from playing the game, but I’m curious to see if they’ll be able to deliver anything as emotionally resonant with those two as they did with this episode.

The Last of Us Episode 3 Was Originally Much Longer
The HBO series creator explained the episode's director, Peter Hoar, worked with the show's editor and completed a two-hour cut of the episode. Mazin admitted that he cried during the showing of the original cut but still needed to trim it to its current runtime of one hour and twelve minutes.
