I think we should do this tournament. My suggestion is to take 64 shows and put them into four conferences of 16 teams each. Then we run each a tournament for each conference until we have a winner. But the final four from each conference will face off against each other for the Championship Title.
As an example I took 64 shows (I included some top min-series but I did not include anything that is typically listened as "comedy") and broke them into North, South, East, and West Conferences. The conferences as listed below are not seeded.
NORTH Dark Fargo Downton Abbey Sherlock The Bear Battlestar Galactica Star Trek: The Next Generation The Fall Babylon 5 Rome Dr. Who E.R. The Twilight Zone The Pacific Band of Brothers Chernobyl
SOUTH Breaking Bad Better Call Saul Justified Ozark True Detective Dexter Stranger Things Narcos Half and Catch Fire Friday Night Lights Atlanta The Leftovers Gunsmoke The Walking Dead The Queen’s Gambit Roots
EAST The Wire The Sopranos The Americans Mad Men Orange is the New Black Handmaid’s Tale Boardwalk Empire Severance Homicide: Life on the Streets Succession Mr. Robot The West Wing My So-Called LIfe Oz Homeland Angels in America
WEST Deadwood Game of Thrones The Shield Sons of Anarchy Yellowstone The X-Files LOST Twin Peaks Six Feet Under Columbo Buffy the Vampire Slayer Watchmen Lonesome Dove American Crime Story: The People v OJ Simpson Barry GLOW

What do you think?
Yes
Sweet!
If you have any thoughts about how to divide up the conferences, I'm all ears.
I'm going to be out of town next week. If you want to set this up and getting it going, by all means, have at it. Otherwise, I'll set it up after next week when I get back.

I don’t want to set it up. I just thought it’d be an interesting topic for a tourney with Saul coming to an end.
I was going to suggest that the series have at least three seasons of not a mini-series. Therefore, something like Severance would be out. But we could do it your way.
Why are the two miniseries you mentioned problematic but not the others I included in the example?

I don’t think miniseries should be included either. It’s an easier task to be great for 3 nights or 10 episodes.
Add Elementary to this list. It will go out early for lack of viewers, but I think one of the main benefits of tourneys like these is reading someone’s take and giving it a shot. Maybe Burn Notice should be on here?

Elementary turned out to be a lot better than I expected. Liu was actually great as Watson and Miller is my favorite on-screen Holmes. A very enjoyable show.

I’m fine either way, just think it warrants a little discussion. Olive Kitteridge?! If there’s an opening, I want it in!
I must’ve missed the other miniseries when I read the list.
In any event, some sort “at least three seasons” or “the show has wrapped” or some designation would be helpful. Tough to qualify something like Barry that made a hard pivot in S3 — some say to its detriment — but could finish really strong next season.

You can't have series that are in progress. Game of Thrones would be exhibit A.

So that means Barry, The Bear, Stranger Things, Succession, Yellowstone. Maybe True Detective, unless as an anthology series you want to pick one season.

I think you can only do TD under that logic if you pick one season (because it's coming back, so otherwise would fall into the same position as Barry)
