A new show based on a somewhat beloved George Lucas movie from the 80s. I never cared for it personally and have absolutely no desire to watch this at all.
Watched the first episode. It's rather uneven. Some hits some misses. If you have or had kids in a certain age range you'll recognize it as very tween TV. There's enough there to stick with for a bit. I liked the creatures that attacked the castle. I miss Val.
I've wanted a sequel to Willow since I saw it in the 80s. I watched the first two episodes with my family this evening, and we all really enjoyed it.
Joanne Whalley and Warwick Davis both look fantastic. Warwick is barely in episode one, but once he shows up, he steals every scene. His comic timing is impeccable. He obviously learned a lot working with Gervais, Merchant, and Pilkington on Life's Too Short and An Idiot Abroad.
Some people will say that it's leaning too much into comedy, but Willow was a funny movie. If anything, I would say it's got more of a Princess Bride feel now, and that's not a bad thing.
One thing that bothered the shit out of me, though: There is a part where this dude yells a word and it makes the horses jump off a cliff into a river. They should all have broken legs, but that isn't what bothered me. What bothers me is it directly and blatantly ripped off Young Guns 2. In the movie, Lou Diamond Phillips does the same thing. Christian Slater then says, "What the hell does that mean anyway, atsay, atsay?" Chavez replies, "It's an ancient Navajo word. It means stop. All they did was change the word in the show. It was crazy. Was it meant to be a respectful nod or did they think they were getting away with one?
Anyway, I can't wait for more. I hope enough people watch this to have a second season greenlighted.
