It's a tricky thought exercise, because to my 16-year old brain, Boogie Nights felt absolutely groundbreaking. Just a force of a film that I watched over and over again. It's hard not to now contextualize and compartmentalize its influences and impacts given the 26 years since its release...

Licorice Pizza felt more French new wave in its structural approach, which I now appreciate more; and just more pleasant and upbeat, which feels kinder to my current worldview.

No. Of the movies dad mentioned, if I could only watch one of them again, I would choose Tombstone.

i've been told countless times to watch tombstone.

i might go to my grave having never seen it. not because i'm against it. more like, i'm bombarded by all the other content shoved in my face on a daily basis.

It will distract you for a couple of hours

okay, will it teach me any life skills?

for instance...after i watched The Grifters i learned how to beat the shit out of someone without giving them visible bruises.

will i learn anything?

Heat will teach you how to properly rob a bank, and deal with any problems that may arise, like cops. Apparently they teach it in schools.

Man, I do not like Boogie Nights.

Or Goodfellas.

Or Heat, come to think of it.
