3 is not that good, IMO. This is better than 3.

1 basically sucks

You have two of the worst ones at the top of your list!

These movies are at their best when they’re grounded in the human performances. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Henry Cavill, even Keri Russell’s bit part all stand out to me a fair bit more than some of their accompanying action sets.

Everyone talks about how John Woo ruined part 2, and yeah he did, but Thandie Newton sucked an awful lot too.

I really enjoyed Shea Whigham in this new one and hope he gets more screen time in the sequel.

Don't think there is a lot to divide the top movies, in star ratings I rate them about the same. But I'll try a ranked list:

5 (Rogue Nation)
4 (Ghost Protocol)
1
6 (Fallout)
3
2

Not seen the new one yet.

The first one seems the most real or realistic. It's not perfect, but I wish they had gone a little more in that direction, than what they did. The sixth one was very well made, and entertaining as an action and thrilling spectacle, but it all became a bit too much to top the ranking (or achieve a top rating from me).

I think the most "realistic" one is 3, and that is part of why I'm not much into it. Plus the sloppy action and weird saturated look and color correction. PSH is an absolute highlight though.

1 doesn't feel so realistic. It's very corny and filled with huge eyerolly moments. Upon rewatching them all this year I even found myself enjoying 2 more than 1

6 is a masterpiece for me

I love a good realistic spy movie, but over the top spy movies have always been more popular (James Bond, MI).

No close your heart. Chain it up tightly so that the sickness can't touch you.

1 is without a shadow of a doubt, better than 2.

I also "enjoyed" rewatching 2, but I'd still put it very solidly at the bottom of the rankings.

I really love 3 and think it's one of the best. It's the most deadly serious one, and I'm glad they didn't stick with that tone for the rest of the franchise. But there's also some playfulness to the proceedings. That whole sequence at the Vatican is a ton of fun.

Look, I don't stand super firm on this 2 > 1 thing. 2 has a ton of problems. But Ethan Hunt as a motorcycle kung-fu Christ figure leads to some hilarious, over-the-top moments, and I just feel like sticking up for it sometimes

As a Mission Impossible movie, the first one feels stylistically disconnected. I think of it more like a bridge between 70s espionage movies and where the franchise headed. It’s awesome.

The first three all feel like outliers in their own way. It wasn't until the 4th one when the franchise started to settle in to what it would become.

Eh. Maybe part 3 kind of established the template.
