I have no intention of ever watching Maestro so for now this is the most complete ranked list of this year's BP noms that you're going to get out of me.

That placement of Past Lives is rotten. It's such a fluid and graceful piece of filmmaking, full of artful little details. I was super impressed with it, and how vivid and effortless its storytelling is

Obviously coming at it from completely different directions aesthetically, thematically and narratively, but the reasons I loved Past Lives are very similar to the reasons I loved Killers of the Flower Moon

The most annoying part of Past Lives isn't even the story about which insecure, annoying simp she will choose to love--it's the transitions between every scene which are just like shots of stuff in the room with the most boring movie-score-music playing over it. just a waste of time!

I know, I know, the movie isn't even about the simps. It's about her. The simps are just underwritten objects the movie uses to advance our main character's journey

1. That's not even close to what the story's about 2. Objects in rooms, evidence of life in living spaces, is indeed a recurring motif; I wonder why they did that? It was probably an accident! 3. The score is one of the highlights
Sit down and think about how in your haste to dismiss this movie you ended up sounding like Bammer writing about international cuisine
Oppenheimer was the big winner of the night, after scooping seven awards including best picture and best actor for Cillian Murphy The film, which had 13 nominations, also wins best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr, as well as best director for Christopher Nolan, plus film editing, cinematography and original score Emma Stone is awarded best actress for her role in Poor things, which also won best production design, make-up and costume design The best supporting actress award goes to The Holdovers' star Da'Vine Joy Randolph Barbie - last year's highest grossing film - receives just one award for best original song written by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas. The pair performed live, as did actor Ryan Gosling Anatomy of a Fall wins best original screenplay, while American Fiction scoops the adapted screenplay gong It's a historic night for some, as Ukraine wins its first ever Oscar with best documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, and the UK wins best international film for The Zone of Interest

Bradley Cooper’s Maestro is going home empty-handed. Despite being nominated for seven Oscars, and heavily favored to win one for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Maestro fell victim to Poor Things, which had a ton of support in the below-the-line crafts categories.
