with a limit on tries and a rule that's not clearly defined, it absolutely makes sense to spoiler this detail. It's on the player to discover how the game is slightly more difficult with a double letter (or more!) in play because it adds an extra level of deductive reasoning that isn't spelled out in the rules.

I'm on board, have got the last two days. Don't have time for this emoji nonsense. But I am curious: Isn't a fairly obvious tactic to come up with 2-3 probe words to immediately rule out any common letters?

My go-to probe words:
Spoiler: show
NASTY
PROUD
CHIEF


You use those three and you should be able to solve the rest with little effort.
