New trailer...what do you guys think? Harlin is a great director, but its been ages since he really brought something good. Also, im not sold on those scenes that are left from the original, but this being a trilogy could be interesting too.
the big thing I remember feeling when I last saw this was that it seems waaaay less subtle, and the acting a bit hokey, but we'll see

Made my way through the Scream series over the past week or so, had only seen the first three back when they were new and never saw the rest. The first one is obviously far and away the best. The remaining movies all suffer from not being able to credibly bring Matthew Lillard back in any capacity, but 2, 4, and 5 are all pretty good. The third one had a really off-putting tone/subject matter combo - a movie that verges on being a slapstick comedy with a twist that involves...a gang rape. Huh. 4 was a marked improvement, and 5 was good except for killing off everyone's favorite character. 6 started fairly strong but devolved into nonsense.
Overall, the whole series makes me really wonder why Neve Campbell didn't become a much bigger star. I think she and David Arquette are the reason the series was able to remain viable after the enormous onslaught of imitations in the late 90s. I might dig up some of the imitators next - I remember Urban Legends being one of the less shitty ones.

Urban Legend is very fun. I Know What I did Last Summer is also very fun. I would add The Faculty into that list.
Im a huge fan of the original Scream and the whole franchise. i also agree pretty much with your views, but this is a franchise that i adore and have so much fun watching it im very happy Neve is coming back. I am curious about Kevin Williamson coming back to direct. He only directed one movie, the maligned Teaching Mrs Tingle so who knows whats he going to do. Hopefully he gets a very good DP please, the last two look very good and the original really looks great.

Yeah that's my ranking as well, although I might switch 4 and 2. I do like I Know What You Did Last Summer too but I remember it being way on the tamer side of that wave of slashers.

Do you mean Valentine's Day, from 2002? That one was on the tail end of the post-Scream slasher trend. MBV came out in '81 and then was remade (surprisingly well) in 2009. I like all of them, actually.

Well I impulse bought Urban Legends, Valentine, and Cherry Falls so I'll watch them all over the next week. Watching Friday Part 3 now because I'm a little drunk. Man that electro theme song is really something.
