Fuck all of this shit

Quote:
Twenty five years after the release of the original genre-changing classic, Lionsgate and Blumhouse announced out of CinemaCon today that they will partner on the development and production of a new The Blair Witch Project movie as the first film in a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library.

Detest.

I don't know about this, loved the original, but I think setting it in Europe and involving British people makes sense, I was expecting worse

I had my problems with the implausability of the third act of the original, but I admired the tension and suspense. Really heavy stuff. This look like shit, and the trailer ruined the twist. Mcavoy is a good actor, but here he seems like a caricature of former roles.

I mean, the ending of the original is supposed to be over the top, the movie is a satire after all

yes, as per the director; it's about Denmark in particular but as a Brit I can relate as well; it's not just about the tendency towards politeness but about the public pressure to maintain it, in the most insidious circumstances (that's my reading)

the politeness I think is linked to a kind of loyalty to national(ist) reputation, and when you dig under the surface it's not all benign (look at their / our common feelings on immigration for example)

for another great movie looking at this topic, watch last year's "The Beasts / As Bestas", about the conflict experienced by a family moving to Spain from the Basque region of France

As Beastias is fantastic.

I get the satire in SNE, but I think is in constant conflict with the horror elements of the movie to fully works. The director asks for so much suspension of desbelief in order to get a satisfactory impact.

well, I loved both, but that's fair criticism; I don't necessarily need a film like that to feel totally "realistic" (grounded, yes, but that's different)

also, that constant conflict as you put it is part of what makes it work for me; the disbelief, the second-hand embarrassment, the concern for the kids, it's all part of the horror
