The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I started again with this series. I saw the first two back in the day, in the theatre and never continued with it. Yesterday i saw Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.
I enjoyed it, its a fine movie, with great performances from Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman and David Thewlis. Was it amazing? Not really. A few very cool scenes (the best one was the bus ride) but thats about it. Hope the series picks up from here...but im guessing this fandom is similar to the Star Wars one. Im in the SW camp and im not sure the next movies will change that.

What's a good age to start the books? I was thinking of getting my 9 year old niece the first book for Christmas.
I never got into HP, but I've only every heard good things, and I imagine this is how it'll eventually come back around: if any of my kids are interested in it, I think it'll be fun to read with them or to read it side-by-side. My daughter is only 3 but I already enjoy breaking down movies and books with her, it'll be great when she's older and we can get into more complex stuff.

My boy is 7 and he doesn't read these yet although we have read the first book to him and his 3 yo sister (slightly edited). He has watched the first one too.
9 is probably about right to start reading it by themselves.

whats your favorite one?
After this last viewing, I’d rank them:
Sorcerer’s Stone Prisoner of Azkaban Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Half-Blood Prince Order of the Phoenix Chamber of Secrets Goblet of Fire
Sorcerer’s Stone Prisoner of Azkaban Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Half-Blood Prince Order of the Phoenix Chamber of Secrets Goblet of Fire

I don't consider myself a Potter fan, but the HP series is considerably better than SW.
Prisoner of Azkaban Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Half-Blood Prince Goblet of Fire Order of the Phoenix Sorcerer’s Stone Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Chamber of Secrets
Chamber of Secrets is the only HP movie I think is legitimately not at least "good."

scene. from azkaban.
The last stretch, when Harry realizes he had to help himself, and then getting the broom from Sirius. Kills me every time.
