Won’t the hawk accomplish your goals
he doesn't seem to go for the bunnies
i think they are too smart for him
they live under my back deck
they are big
and basically not scared of me
i considered trapping and relocating them once but i just couldnt do it
they aren't like squirrels
those disgusting putrid tree rats from hell
nothing like squirrels

Lot of action this weekend.
Yesterday was our preschool’s gardening day. I had volunteered early to lead the charge on the veggies. Was getting stressed on Friday because there were no comms from the school confirming who would show, so I assumed there would be like three of us and a mountain of work. But turnout was great, and most of the other people were relegated to the backbreaking task of removing a giant dirt mound play area; imagine about 10 adults spending an entire 87F day dismantling a small hill of dirt, rocks, and top soil, and you’ll get some idea of how glad I was to be prepping garden beds and planting veggies all day.
Then today we tackled our home garden. Had a bunch of starters in our house for the last few weeks, so today I turned the soil and transplanted tomatoes, cukes, peppers, and planted melons, carrots, greens, and a couple herbs. Then I tackled some raspberry bush pruning.
Weather has been weird this season, with warm days, but until this last week, lingering threat of freezing temps at night. Feels great to finally be off to the races.

my peonies have been raging the last week
one of them looking like it's nearing the last legs
but still full open blooms
a huge thunderstorm just rolled through
i know from peony experiences past, it basically takes one windy day / rainstorm when they are like this to fuck the batch and end the season
when i heard the deluge begin to drop my mind went to 'clip them'
there is a light pink version that smells wonderful
i have fewer of them but they just started to open 4-5 days ago
big rainstorm will ruin them for sure
so i went and clipped 6 and put them in a vase with water
a big moment
but needed to take evasive action
beautiful flowers are meant to be enjoyed
and when they smell like candy perfume it is something you want to take advantage of
it is sad their outdoor moment is passing
but exciting because tomorrow morning i will awaken to an aroma of bliss

For Mother’s Day, the girls got Mrs Wease a cucumber plant, a tommy toe plant and a basil (which she doesn’t really care for) plant. They planted those and today we added jalapeños, okra and an heirloom tomato plant.

carrots growing, plant part on top like 3-4 inches tall
corn growing too. like a foot tall now. overcame a few rounds of bunnies eating it to the nub. put a little point fence around it and it came back
pumpkin plants starting to expand
no tomato plants yet
need pumpkins to get going more and act as natural spiky fence barrier against the rabbits
