I find him to be consistently hilarious. Arguably the best SNL cast member ever. Several of his bits on late night shows, viral videos, and guest spots have brought some of the deepest laughs.
I'm not sure that his former default schtick ever did much for me. But overall I really like him. When he isn't doing incompetent yelling (which can certainly be funny "MA ... MEATLOAF!" always gets me for some dumb reason) he's a gem. I like his range. I really like the oddball movies he's done that lean dramatic -- or more dramatic than I ever expected from his SNL days. Stanger Than Fiction is a good example.

I dig him. Anchorman is a fucking classic. As is More Cowbell. Those two right there earn him enough credit with me to produce a clunker every now and then.
(Currently enjoying him on Eastbound and Down. He was a pleasant surprise.)

He had a nice run as that guy who makes everything 50% funnier just by being in it (like Sandler, Carey, Stiller, Carell, maybe McCarthy), then his shtick got stale, now I actively avoid most things he's in. I can't remember the last Ferrell movie I actually finished. Daddy's Home, maybe?
