I'm gonna get one of those door bells that play mp3s and set it so My Doorbell plays from the front, and Knockin On Your Back door plays from, you know, the back. Everyone will hate it; I will love it. The dogs, too. Probably.

I also replaced a furnace filter, so I'll probably drink too much tonight.

i do

i pitched for a top-end Rinnai, one efficient enough to qualify for the federal and state tax credits

i've lived in a couple houses and dealt with enough water heater replacement / de-gunking that when i learned the one in this house was 21 years old (not an 8 year model on it's 11th year as we were told) i decided to just spend the extra couple K and get one powerful enough to work multiple bathrooms and the washing machine etc and will last for 20 years and i wont have to mess around with replacing another one in 5 /7/ 11; and dealing with gunking up again (happens in some places with a lot of chemicals in the water). Also it freed up extra space in my basement which I now use as my lair of safety.

I do, but I don't think I'll be particularly helpful.

We probably should get around to de-scaling it.

We’re having trouble with our shower water being hot. The temp in the heater is set at 120F (and I haven’t figured out how to adjust that) and for all the faucets it services, the water is piping hot. But when we take a shower, the water is lukewarm, at best. Any ideas?

First place I’d look is the mix/blend valve at the shower fixture. This is what regulates the ratio of hot & cold as you turn the dial(s).

It’s not too early to start mentally preparing your short list of candidates for 2021 RMOTY

Any tips for an overly sensitive smoke detector? We've been doing the ziploc with a rubber band but it's kind of a chore. Thing goes off anytime the oven is over 400, no matter what's in it (including nothing!) and it's hardwired so it triggers all the other ones to go off too.

Is smoke coming out of your oven at 400? Perhaps it needs a good cleaning.

No! Nothing is coming out of the oven. This has been going on since we moved in. We thought at first that, as a new oven, it was burning off some dust it had picked up in shipping/storage, but it's still happening.

Heat sensor? (Not just smoke)

Ohh possibly, hadn't even considered that. It's not in the kitchen but it's on the same floor. We know it's not a gas leak because it's not a CO2 alarm (we have those in the bedrooms but not in the living areas). Is it possible to turn that off?

Probably easier to just get a new one and replace it.

I made the adjustment to the valve. If it worked, I will nominate you and be the first one to vote for you.

That did the trick. Stately Wease Manor thanks you. I thank you, my friend.
