The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Im being told that i need a backflow system installed due to my irrigation system.
what does that do?
What is a Backflow Preventer and why do I need one?
Many people do not understand the importance of having an irrigation backflow preventer and why it is necessary. The landscape around your home or business is filled with all sorts of things that can make you sick if ingested. Fertilizers, pesticides and the bacteria found in pet wastes just to name a few.
Most irrigation systems are connected to a potable water supply. Backflow preventers, as the name implies, prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the potable water supply. Backflow can occur if there is a sudden pressure drop in the municipal water line. This could be caused by the opening of a fire hydrant for example. When the pressure drops on the supply side of an irrigation system, water that is standing around a sprinkler head can be drawn back into the municipal water line, thus contaminating the potable water supply. Backflow preventers keep this from happening.
Because the potential risk for contamination is high, most municipalities require the installation of a backflow prevention device on all irrigation systems and require that they be tested at least annually.

Or you could just man up and buy new battery operated timers and sprinklers every year at Home Depot which crap out, without fail, every single year so you go back and buy another one next year, again, and do it again the next year, wash/rinse/repeat.

Then just go turn them on and off every day. What's that, like five minutes out of your day?
I have been doing that this year. 5 separate “zones” if you will. Pain in the ass. Takes a good hour and can’t run more than one at a time or the pressure/reach is reduced.
Plus the fkn sprinkler heads themselves always fuck up but that may be from my kids messing with them.
The only ones that work consistently are these but it’s not practical to use in all the “zones” around my house. First world problems, I know.

neighbor behind me still has his massive broken branch just dangling uncut
the branch is like 20 feet log, 2 feet thick at it's thickest...

it's like a couple feet away from my fence
he had tree pruners with a crane take down a huge maple a month ago, and i was like 'oh they'll surely take that limb down too, it's half dead'
nope ... left it
i was like 'wtf is this guy's problem'
but i figured if it broke, it would narrowly miss my fence
and lo and behold, that's what happened
assuming its dangle doesn't give way and cause it to tumble and roll somehow into my thing
there's another one hanging over his shed i was surprised he didnt cut, but it didnt fall.
some people just dont understand that large trees require occasional maintenance
you don't just have 50-80 footers dotted about your property and just assume all's well
you have to prune them. and remove large dead limbs
