I think the big problem is that early on the show is modeled after the British version where Michael/David and Dwight/Gareth are far more annoying and unlikeable. So when they pivot to making Dwight and Michael more sympathetic it makes Jim look bad in retrospect.

yeah

Is the Jim in the British version a douche though?

It's been a while since I watched it, but I don't think so. He's a lot more depressed and is actually the subject of bullying from David Brent a few times.

The pranks weren't such a big deal in the British office. The only one I remember is the stapler in the jello.

Yeah I wouldn't call the British Jim a douche, but I recently learned that the actor Martin Freeman might be a giant one.

I've heard that as well, and if true it's highly disappointing.

I think he played the weary, disillusioned employee way better than Joe Kramisky

Would you flip F and M, or are you a weirdo that would rather bang JLG?

It's an easy choice to me when Karen is the most attractive and normal person of the bunch, so you enjoy the banging and the marital bliss.

he could portray Morrissey in a Musk-funded biopic about one man’s struggle to share free speech in a woke world.

Unfortunately, it won't come out before Hollywood hires Neil Patrick Harris to portray him as Nazi who beats trans people and Muslims to death for kicks.
