He is a douche, but I think there’s some redemption for him in the end:
-He aspires to more than a paper company, trying to start his athlete rep business
-His marriage starts to face some real threats
-He reorients himself towards his marriage and Dunder Mifflin, with a newfound commitment to the team
-He and Pam ultimately decide to move to TX for the athlete rep co, but they leave on good terms with everyone, especially Dwight and Angela
He spends much of the show grappling with the idea that he’s somehow better than his colleagues, and capable of more. I think he ultimately lands on the latter, but realizes the former was formed out of vanity.
Great character arc. Is his relationship with Pam the best tv romance of all time?
