This was good. Fantastic, subtle performance by Schreiber. Ruffalo was also great (as always), even if he just reprised his role from The Normal Heart. I do think the movie never quite found the appropriate tone; I like McCarthy a lot, but I think this material needed someone to elevate it to a level of existential dread, closer to something like All the President's Men. Not sure who that would be, though. Howard Shore's lightweight score also felt out of place and distracting. But, still, overall, very good. Some excellent stretches of dialogue.
