This thread is reminding me of how little I remember from the last two books.

There's so many details and they are so long that I think it's impossible. I read all 5 with only a short break between the 4th and 5th book between July 2012 and last month (I read on my commute only), and I can't recall probably 80% of the details. There's just so much one can absorb.

I need to read these again cause I remember next to nothing. When I watch the show I can tell when they change things but I don't recall how it went in the books. Gonna wait till a few months before the next book comes out so who knows when.

I have a feeling the sixth book will be out sometime next year.

Did you see that interview with David Benioff where you basically said, (paraphrasing) "yeah we're worried about him not finishing the books. That's why we made him tell us what happens. We can't wait forever, the kids are getting older. The show must go on" ?

I don't think I would watch the show if it extends beyond what has been written already.

That's something that I struggle with as well. But it's a very real possibility.

I get the feeling the show will start to lose viewers by the time it gets that far. Let's be honest, not a ton of major things happen in books 4 and 5.

In the perfect world they could figure out a way to do books 4 and 5 in one season or two at the most.
I'm afraid since they books are huge they may do them in 3 season's.

No way viewers put up with brienne's wandering, all the new dorne people (which i like but compounded with the other boring parts woudl be hard), tyrion wandering and wondering where whores go and last but FAR FROM leaset
Dany's inability to do anything for all of dance with dragons

Isn't this guy getting pretty up there? You'd think he'd be in a hurry to finish his story!

Yeah, Feast and Dance can and should be 2 seasons (total). And if the books were finished, I think that's 100% how they would tackle them. With no end (to the books) in sight, they'll stretch as long as they can/have to.

I meant to ask earlier, can anyone tell me who that was who cut off Jamie's hand in the show? I can't remember who did it in the books. Same guy?

There are a lot of amazing events in both books, I think. Great, great stuff. The fourth book is my second favorite in the series. But I admit that both 4 and 5 are probably overlong. HBO could easily cut those books down to just the major events, throw in some fun padding like they've been doing all along, and viewers would have 2 great seasons of television.

Really the only issue is that these next seasons have to follow this season. Which is going to destroy people.

The major events of the 4th and 5th books get lost in all of the fluff. I'm hoping the fluff is necessary to reset the story for the final two books. Dace with Dragons certainly started the move the story forward in a big way. The next book should have 2 or 3 battles right off the bat. Should be good.
